The original hit film starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin told the story of sexist discrimination in the workplace. Released in 1980 the story still seems relevant today with many workplaces still harbouring the sexist, egotistical Frank Hart character of the film. Even in today’s equal rights society many women are still fighting for equal pay.
It is a shame that three decades on from the film the story will still be true for many female employees and is one of the reasons why the musical version is set to do so well.
Although Dolly Parton does not feature on stage in this musical she has composed a series of songs with her own lyrics especially for the show. The highly successful movie is surely set to be a great success on Broadway.
