The BBC Proms has always been a popular event, but many have been put off from buying tickets in the past, due to an outdated ticket system. Last year, to obtain a ticket people were asked to write in with a blank cheque and request the performance they wanted to see. Due to this only a total of £8000 tickets were sold. This year has seen a massive turnaround with over 80,000 tickets being sold. This is due to the new system that has been put in place. Fans were able to book both online and over the phone on a first come first served basis, which the BBC labelled as a “fairer system”.
