Many theatre productions entice audiences by giving roles to those already made famous by the silver screen or the music industry. Just recently it was announced that Michelle Williams (former member of destiny’s child) would be making her West End Debut playing Roxy in hit musical Chicago. Now it seems theatre actors have yet another threat in the form of famous comedians who also want a piece of the action.
One of the latest is Matt Lucas who will be taking on the role of Kenneth Halliwell in a play based on the biography of playwright Joe Orton. He follows in the footsteps of many other successful comedians such as Catherine Tate who appeared in Under the Blue Sky and Rowan Atkinson who played Fagin in Oliver.
Perhaps comics will be become the preferred choice for theatre productions in the future rather than soapstars as they are used to performing live in front of demanding audiences and already have a good fan base from live tours.
