Go to the cinema today and you will see adverts for performances by the Royal Opera House being shown on the big screen. So what does this mean for the West End? Could many of the musicals and plays be filmed for cinema audiences?
An Australian lady who is a Royal Shakespeare Company patron has already launched a petition with the aim of persuading the RSC to film the production of Hamlet, staring David Tennant, and release it on DVD. Michael Bond who is the artistic director of the RSC is definitely not opposed to this idea, so maybe in the future, those of us who cannot afford the time or money to travel to London to see our favourite plays, will be able to watch them from the comfort of our own home.
