David Tennant who has played the Role of Hamlet since August this year has had to take leave from the play due to a back injury. Tennant will be undergoing surgery for a prolapsed disc today and is not due to return to the role until after Christmas leaving the way open for his understudy Edward Bennett to take on the role.

Bennett who formally played Laertes made his preview this week and received a standing ovation with critics stating that although Bennett’s performance is very different to that of Tennant’s he takes a more traditional style and is definitely an actor to watch.
