We all know Lenny Henry as the loud mouthed comedian and one of the front men for Comic Relief, but now he faces a new challenge as he performs on stage for the first time. Henry has taken on the role of Othello, which will certainly be a tough challenge for someone who has never performed on stage before.
Henry admits that he has only recently become interested in the works of Shakespeare as he was put off it at school. He has also stated that he can sympathise with Othello, understanding how he must have felt. Henry himself grew up in a school with only three black children and has found that during many times in his career he was the only black guy.
The production of Othello will be showing at the West Yorkshire playhouse but will also be visiting Scarborough, Kingston, Newcastle under Lyme Halifax, Bath, Kingston and Coventry.
