Have you ever had your theatre experience ruined by some unruly audience members? It makes you wonder why they even pay to see a performance if they are just going to sit and talk all the way through, or even worse put on a performance of their own. It seems that this is becoming more and more of a problem and theatre owners are having to think of new ways to deal with this type of anti social behaviour.
A theatre company in the united states has already found what it thinks is a successful way of dealing with the problem. In the interest of theft prevention as well as customer and employee safety they have installed multi camera security systems which they say has helped enormously towards dealing with theft and “fraudulent personal injury claims”. Whether UK theatres will also take on this approach is unclear, especially as many in the UK feel that we are already watched too much by CCTV in our everyday lives. With the rising threat of terrorism and the rise of antisocial behaviour, unless things improve I can only see the benefits of such a system to make the theatre experience more enjoyable for all.
