It has been confirmed that in 2009 artistic director David Farr is to leave his position at The Lyric theatre in Hammersmith, London, to join the internationally renowned Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) as an associate director.
Mr. Farr has been with The Lyric since June 2005, enriching the theatre with his bold visions, as shown in this year’s revival of the Harold Pinter’s play, The Birthday Party. Before working at The Lyric, Mr. Farr was head of artistic work at both the Bristol Old Vic and London’s Gate Theatre.
Mr. Farr stands alongside Rupert Goold, previously the director of Headlong, Royal and Derngate Theatres, and Roxana Shilbert who also been given appointments with the RSC as associate directors.
Anthony Neilson, artistic associate of the National Theatre of Scotland, will join the RSC as a literary associate, while award winning British actress and theatre director, Kathryn Hunter, will be welcomed to the RSC as an artistic associate.
Mr. Michael Boyd, the RSC’s artistic director, has been reported as saying “The RSC is very fortunate that some of the most inspirational theatre-makers of their generation want to make the RSC their artistic home over the coming years and help to redefine ensemble theatre-making in this country.”
