We all know that even some of the most seasoned actors admit to suffering from stage fright from time to time, but it must be an actor’s worst nightmare to forget their lines while performing live in front of a huge audience. As well as being a disaster for the actor it is very uncomfortable for the audience to watch, but this is exactly what happened to Stephen Dillane last week during his performance in “The Tempest in New York”. Not only did Dillane forget his lines but it took him five minutes to recover from the ordeal. I think you would agree, that 5 minutes of silence in the theatre world is a very long time. This lapse of concentration did nothing to change the critics opinions who had already referred to Dillanes performance as “chilly” and “downcast”.
