Yet another award winning ‘Theatre Royal’ has hit the headlines recently.
Following on from our report on the award winning of York’s Theatre Royal (see York Theatre Royal Wins Prestigious national Award), Norwich’s theatre of the same name drew its own praise when it was declared the overall winner of the equally prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) East of England Awards 2008, doubtlessly making the theatre’s £10 million revamp all the more worth it. The theatre was also presented with the Community Benefit Award, adding to its tally of official recognition.
Tim Foster Architects completely remodelled and redeveloped the theatre’s street elevation, front of house and seating auditorium to make it even more accessible to the public, with more modern and more attractive facilities for theatre goers.
The RICS Awards have been running for eighteen years and are intended to recognise projects that prove exemplary in four categories: building conservation, regeneration, sustainability and benefit to the community.
Tim Foster, owner of the architectural company responsible for the work, is reported to be delighted with the recognition his company’s work has attracted, though no more delighted than the property owners themselves and the hundreds of happy theatre goers that walk through their shiny new front doors…
