With the 250th Anniversary of Scotland’s most famous poet Robert Burns, it’s not surprising that the 2009 Edinburgh Festival is set to have a highly Caledonian feel. Although Robert Burns is only mentioned once within the festival program he is described as being the white elephant in the room throughout the festival activities.
Opera features heavily in this years program with performances of Acis and Galatea, Rinaldo and Admeto, Re’ di Tessaglia. In reference to the Caledonian feel of the festival two versions of The Return of Ulysses. One is to be performed by the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the other by Monteverdi’s opera.
One of the major dramas of this years festival is a play about Jayne Horne who was the last woman in Scotland to be executed for witchcraft.
Although the Edinburgh Festival has had its problems this year, one of them being due to the credit crisis, it is still set to be an exciting and entertaining production, which i certainly will not be missing.
