Victory – Gripping Political Theatre

11 03 2009

This play, set in the period after the English civil war portrays many similarities between the political issues of the time and today’s economic climate. The aftermath of the civil war saw bankers taking over the running of the country and the play dramatises peoples greed for money and power.

The cast of Victory includes Geraldine James playing Bradshaw who is the widow of the judge that sentenced Charles I to death. Bradshaw needs to find a way to make a new future for herself, but first she sets out to find the corpse of her husband which has been dug up by the new king for public display.

Matthew Kelly is also a member of the cast, playing a Cavalier who misinterprets the political climate.

The play was originally produced by the now highly successful Danny Boyle back in 1983 and is now an exciting, must watch play which has been very aptly timed.
